Understanding anxiety

A long time ago I heard a psychiatrist define anxiety as the “fear of something that has never happened, but you fear it might”.

Hence we get anxious.

So, anxiety has some form of future focus.I have been using this definition to help client delineate between stress (which he defined as “the fear of something has happen, and you are fearful it will happen it again).

I had not seen this since I heard the psychiatrist offer these definitions, until I listened to this podcast.
